Sexual Health
Sexual Health IS Health!
Whether you’re concerned about your libido, orgasm quality, or you have questions about your newest vibrator purchase - I am here for you. I have spoken with so many people who didn’t know that their sexual health can be addressed with a healthcare provider.
I want you to know: any visit with me is a safe space to discuss whatever feels important to you. I am well versed in discussing all things related to sex. You won’t be judged or shamed here. All topics are on the table, and valid.
Examples of topics:
libido (desire) concerns
arousal (feeling “turned on”) concerns
orgasm concerns - this can include whether you can no longer orgasm, have never had an orgasm (or you’re unsure if you have), quality has decreased or changed, you have pain with orgasm, etc.
pain or discomfort with any sexual activity
safe sex
sexually transmitted infections and screening/testing
lubricants and toys/vibrators
how to communicate about sex with your partner
masturbation techniques and resources
We will talk about what is important to you, in a judgement-free space.
What to expect at this type of visit:
Honestly, mostly talking.
Exploration of your personal, family, social, and medical history.
In depth discussion around your specific sexual health concern.
We’ll discuss if a physical exam is recommended. This doesn’t need to take place at the same appointment, and all exams are on your terms.
Recommendations and suggestions. This may include blood tests, referrals for physical therapy, medication trials, etc.
Don’t worry! You can keep your pants on.
We can always defer your exam to a future appointment. And everything about your exam is on your terms and with your consent.
Some resources to get you started:
“Come As You Are” by Emily Nagoski - helpful for concerns around libido and/or orgasm.
“When Sex Hurts” by Goldstein, Pukall, and Goldstein
“Let’s Talk About Down” There by Dr. Jennifer Lincoln - for general information about reproductive health.
“The Vagina Bible” by Dr. Jen Gunter - for a deeper dive into general information about reproductive health
If you are not in the Vancouver/Portland area or cannot see me for a visit:
Both of these organizations have a “find a provider” search tool on their website. So, you can look for people in your area who have this extra training. You can also look for an “IF” after a provider’s credentials. This stands for “ISSWSH Fellow” and means they are committed to a specialization in sexual health.
